In this sections of our beautiful wikispace, we will be talking about good ways to handle criticism. Just remember that criticism is something not everyone can handle sometimes, but just make sure that you keep it cool when in the moment. No one is expecting you to blow up over something that is supposed to help out, ya know? Okay well than let's hop right into it.
Don’t Take it Personally- One of the most common mistakes that people make when getting criticism from others is they take it as if the person is attacking them. While it is true that there are people who like to take people down a peg, you have to realize that there is a difference between criticism that is intended to help you versus criticism that is intended to hurt you.
Learn From It- There is a difference between being a boss at taking criticism versus letting people just steamroll you. Being criticized by others teaches you alot about yourselves. It allows you areas for improvement and also allows us to see others for who they are whether they’re being helpful or are simply bullying you.
All Criticism is Not Created Equal- Destructive criticism not only hurts one’s self esteem, but it can also hurt them mentally, making someone less effective at the workplace. This is why it is important (whether you’re the criticizer or the criticizee) to think critically about the situation before you say anything. Don't allow yourself to be a victim either. If you let yourself always think someone is "bullying" you then you won't take any ownership for what you do need to work on.
Best quote I live by when it come to criticism- "Criticism, like rain, should be gentle enough to nourish a man’s growth without destroying his roots." -Frank A. Clark
